> DDUK is the 1st Conference on Deaf diabetes UK
Deaf Advocacy + Justice 4 Deaf People is pleased to launch + host this first Deaf-led DDUK Conference on 29 July 2010.
> DDUK Conference will provide an excellent opportunity for Deaf diabetes + for Deaf people / Deaf parents do not have diabetes are interested in diabetes matters to meet NHS Professionals.

to raise awareness on the needs of Deaf diabetes's access to the NHS Diabetes Care + Services plus information, to develop an understanding of their access + communication needs, to identify gaps in the NHS Diabetes Care + Services, to highlight concerns + to offer possible solutions. to inform Deaf people who do not have diabetes to be aware of diabetes risks + preventative measures. And the needs of Deaf parents + their view about their children needs who may have diabetes.
DDUK Vision
1) to advocate
- access / communication needs, rights + services entitlement, access information to make informed decisions, make a complaint or comment, of all Deaf diabetes to NHS Diabetes Care + Services. (including Deaf people who do not have diabetes interested in diabetes / preventative measures.)
The need to develop a register for Deaf people with Diabetes, as this is unknown.
2) to empower Deaf diabetes
- to raise specific concerns / questions put to the NHS Professionals, decisions makers, NHS services providers nationwide to raise awareness on the needs of Deaf diabetes access / communication needs to the NHS Diabetes Care + Services + to offer possible solutions.
- how to find out what standard of NHS diabetes care + services + information Deaf diabetes should be receiving?
- to get involved in influencing local diabetes care + services
3) to support Deaf diabetes
- personal experiences of access + communication barriers to NHS Diabetes care + services including voluntary organisations involved with diabetes currently not accessible.
- getting involved with decision makers locally to make real improvements, planning + influencing in diabetes care + services + to make the services Deaf friendly.
4) to enable Deaf diabetes
- access to information to gain a better understanding of how NHS Diabetes Care + Services work + how to use information to influence + make improvements happen in your local diabetes care + services + with the The National Service Framework for Diabetes (NSF) for long term plan.12 standards to implement them over a 10 years. April 2003 onwards
DDUK Conference Fees - Payment no later than 14th July 2010 by 5pm please.

Deaf Diabetes = £6 per person
[Deaf Usher, Deafened + Hard of Hearing diabetes are welcome]
Deaf person who has no diabetes interested in attending DDUK Conference = £6 per person.
Deaf families / hearing parents of hearing + Deaf children who have diabetes = £6 per family.
Professionals / service providers = £50 per organisation per representative
The Conference fee includes refreshments + light lunch + Exhibition stalls visit.

Note Priority places will be given to D/deaf diabetes + Deaf families with child/ren who have diabetes including D/deaf child/ren of hearing parents.
Terms + Conditions
One form per person / family. We will confirm your place subject to first come first served basis on places available when we receive your booking form. Confirmation by email or SMS.
No refund will be made if booking cancelled less than 15 working days with a written notification (by email or letter) + also for non-attendence on 29 July 2010 DDUK Conference event.
You can transfer your place to another person but please inform us asap to ensure correct names on the Conference listing. Thank you.
Children are welcome under parent's supervision.
